Notes that help you get to know Casa do Cedro in Medelim better
The house was bought, with a large couple of lands, in the first years of the 20th century to the Pinto Castelo Branco family, relatives of my great-great-grandparents, to integrate the marriage dowry of their daughter Maria Júlia Capelo Franco Frazão (sister of the Count of Penha Garcia, influential politician at the end of the monarchy), from Capinha, with my great-grandfather Augusto Pedro de Figueiredo da Costa Falcão, graduated in Law, from Pedrógão de S. Pedro e Alcaide.
The original house was divided in half and the part that remained was the object of total remodeling works. In shares for the death of that couple, my grandmother Maria Delfina Franco Frazão de Figueiredo Falcão, married to grandfather João António de Castro Pereira Lopes Cardoso, who continued the works. We look forward to your stay.
It was, therefore, at first, an agricultural support house for the Medelim couple and then, on vacation, for two, now three, generations.
The remodeling of the house was the initial design of the great-grandfather Joaquim Capelo Franco Frazão, brother of the great-grandmother Júlia, single and great agricultural administrator of Casa Franco Frazão, and who, according to family tradition, was the one who wanted, and thus obtained, to form the sister Maria Júlia's dowry, having later been surely greatly influenced by our grandparents.
In the 1990s, a new division took place and the house came to be owned by my parents, Maria Manuela Queirós de Ataíde Páris de Vasconcelos Lopes Cardoso and Augusto Pedro Falcão Lopes Cardoso, who made further adaptations and modernizations to further improve the comfort of the place. Truly a family home, where her 3 children and 11 grandchildren took their “first steps” and always ready to receive relatives and friends from the “4 corners of the world”.
The House has reached the current generation, which has embarked on a new profound transformation of the interior and exterior, seeking to provide it with modern comforts and thus keep it alive for future generations.
With great pleasure, it now also welcomes guests looking for a pleasant and comfortable place, for a well-deserved rest or as a starting point to visit the region. Welcome!
